Your thoughts?

Thu Jul 23, 2009, 3:10 PM
  • Listening to: the silence of my Grandma's empty house
  • Reading: no homework!
  • Watching: DBZ on youtube
  • Playing: with my laptop
  • Eating: truffles once I make them
  • Drinking: water
I just moved out of my dorm today and am staying at Grandma's house tonight and tomorrow night and then going home the next morning with my family. Yay! Oh joy, oh rapture!

I SHOULD make a journal ranting about what a terrible semester I had thanks to a horrible room mate of mine, but no. I have something else that I want to talk about instead:

There's this new fashion trend where women pluck or bleach their eyebrows entirely so it looks like they don't have them.

I can see why some people would like it. It can make even the most slender eyes look larger and innocent, making the face look more blank and emotionless than botox ever could. It certainly does have its strengths on the cat walk.

However, it doesn't look good on all the celebrity photos I found that had their eyebrows digitally removed. It's certainly only meant for certain lucky people who can look amazing without something as beautiful as their eyebrows. I can easily assume only 1% of all of America falls into that category, and I fear many of the other 99% are going to try it anyway and frighten little children everywhere.

I personally love my bushy eyebrows and do not plan on following this trend any time soon.

What do you think of this trend? Is it stupid? Beautiful? Clever? Innovative? Culturally influenced (other cultures have been doing this for centuries)? Meant only for the cat walk? Another form of body mutilation? Too form-changing (eyebrows make a HUGE difference!)? Tell me!

Seems nuttier than squirrel excrement, if you ask me, but I'm not gonna go and say people shouldn't do it if they wanna.

Somewhere, thousands of light years away, a young dragon with too much caffeine and sugar in his system squealed like a little human girl, and everyone nearby thought him mad... frankly, his aluminum foil viking helmet probably didn't help matters...

I've actually never heard of this trend till just now and I must say that I found myself without words at first to respond to this topic. Fortunately, my apartment-mate did and we began ranting about it ourselves for the next 15 minutes afterwards.

Honestly, I can't imaging why someone would do such a thing to their face. I mean, come on...the eyebrows are THE MOST expressive part of the human face. Do people want to become like stone cold drones or something? I believe eyebrows to be rather beautiful. And when groomed accordingly, they can add so much more personality and expression to a person.

Well, I'm one of those people who just plucks the random ones at the ends so it looks a little more clean, but my eyebrows are still pretty bushy. I know that some people have naturally light eyebrows and look like they don't have any. You know, some natural blonds, some red-heads, but to intentionally do it is just silly. Even if it was for the catwalk, I'd still see it as just silly.

I think there are some cultures who have a superstition that a person without or with tiny eyebrows are supposed to be evil. xD

It's erm.. different X O LOL...
To each their own, but I doubt I'll follow the trend, lol.
Everyone's turning into an L/Near/Mello (from Death Note) :ohnoes: XDDD

I have what my friend and I say are Korean eyebrows. They're kinda wide, but they're also thin, which is why I've never really had any issues with mine. I think that it's kind of creepy when people don't or appear to not have eyebrows.
